The ONDADA project’s main objective is the development of a relay buoy for the security and maritime surveillance system AIS (Automatic Identification System) which can be placed and operated at sea, to extend coverage beyond the 30 nautical miles offered by a ground-based station and can get rid of shadow areas due to orographic terrain.
The main challenges facing the project are the development of a smart buoy, with self‑supplying capacity, orientation and communication. This solution allows to support the installation of AIS repeaters at sea, remotely manageable and with minimal maintenance costs.
The ONDADA project is led by Retevisión and has the participation of Egatel, Scio, Gradiant and the Universidade da Coruña. It lasts for three years and has the support and financing of CDTI (Centre for Industrial Technological Development), a body depending on the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, within the FEDER framework INNTERCONECTA – GALICIA 2011.
