High-Performance mobile coverage for Malpensa and Linate Airports

Cellnex Italia has enabled a network of mini-antennas (DAS) for mobile telephony that guarantees Fastweb+Vodafone, iliad and WINDTRE users a stable and high-performance mobile connection

Ensuring full, symmetric coverage for mobile operators within airport facilities is a key factor for turning a city and its transport network into a genuine smart city. Thanks to the agreement signed between Cellnex Italia and SEA, the company that manages the Milan Malpensa and Milan Linate airport system, as of today Fastweb+Vodafone, iliad and WINDTRE users can enjoy a dedicated, stable and high-performance mobile connection in all areas of both airports.

These two DAS infrastructures, installed at Milan Malpensa and Milan Linate airports, comprise a network of 650 mini-antennas with low visual and electromagnetic impact, located in different sectors of both airports, in both the departures and arrivals areas, involving 25 km of optical fibre cables. Cellnex Italia’s two multi-operator DAS systems have been calibrated to each airport’s architectural layout, developed on several levels and encompassing different types of environments, both operational and commercial, characterised by unique area volumes that also include vertical areas. A customised configuration was designed for these unique spaces to guarantee total coverage with imperceptible interference impact. The latest-generation networks installed by Cellnex Italia in these two airports guarantee radio-mobile connection and provide the latency and signal quality required for developing IoT solutions which provide increasing levels of user security, especially in closed, high-footfall environments such as airports.
