How Cellnex enabled seamless mobile coverage across Milan’s busiest district, boosting tenant satisfaction, increasing property value, and future-proofing urban infrastructure.
To respond to this exceptional level of densification, we designed and implemented a state-of-the-art fiber distribution system connecting remote units and thousands of distributed antennas embedded across the district’s buildings and skyscrapers.
The challenge was to ensure seamless, high-capacity mobile connectivity in an environment where conventional solutions would not suffice.
Challenges
The Porta Nuova district in Milan, encompassing the iconic Gae Aulenti square and the Garibaldi area, stands as one of Europe’s most vibrant examples of urban regeneration. Characterized by its modern skyline of towers and high-rise buildings, premium offices, luxury residences, retail spaces and cultural venues, Porta Nuova has become a hub of business, lifestyle, and large-scale public events. Its dense daily population, combined with frequent gatherings and international events, makes it one of the most digitally demanding areas in Italy.
Solution
Multi-operator mobile coverage enabled through a shared infrastructure using both SISO and MIMO technologies.
3,185 distributed antennas and 43 radio units (RUs) deployed across the district to ensure seamless indoor and outdoor connectivity.
Full coverage across key buildings.
Support for high-demand environments, including office spaces, residential towers, retail areas, public spaces, and underground facilities.
