GROWSMARTER PROJECT (2015- 2019)
Latest Innovations
Transforming cities for a Smart, sustainable Europe
The GrowSmarter project was chosen in the first place from over 19 submissions to receive support from the European Commission’s ‘Smart cities and communities’ Horizon 2020 funding call. The project has a budget of €35 million and has received €25 million in funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. The Growsmarter project is coordinated by the City of Stockholm and joins 37 partners: three Lighthouse cities (Stockholm, Barcelona and Cologne), research centers and industrial companies.
GrowSmarter aims to stimulate city uptake of ‘smart solutions’ by using three Lighthouse cities as a way to showcase 12 Smart City solutions: from advanced information and communication technology and better connected urban mobility, to incorporating renewable energy sources directly into the city’s supply network. The idea is to create a ready market for these smart solutions to support growth and the transition to a smart, sustainable Europe.
Cellnex Telecom assumes the role of benchmark partner in the ICT field and its contribution focuses on the design and implementation of the telecommunications infrastructure in the City of Barcelona needed to carry out the measures, pilots and demonstrations in the field of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Urban Mobility.
Five Follower Cities (Valetta, Suceava, Porto, Cork and Graz) will closely follow the lighthouse cities to learn from their experiences, identify measures suitable for their specific local context and develop a replication plan tailored to local needs.
