The benefits

Cellnex has nationwide coverage with 24 data towers and the Media Gateway. In the Netherlands, you are therefore never more than 35 kilometers from one of our towers. This means that there’s always a suitable datacenter close to you.

At Cellnex, we constantly try to save as much energy as possible in our datacenters. Partly because of the height of our telecom & data towers, we can use energy-saving cooling methods: direct free air cooling and water cooling. These cooling methods are known for their exceptionally low electricity use. With a PUE of 1.2, Cellnex’s datacenters are very energy efficient, which also leads to a lower energy bill.
Cellnex keeps investing in a better environment and the development of smart and sustainable solutions. This is one of the reasons why we are a partner in Green IT Amsterdam, a platform consisting of over 50 parties that promotes a strong local datacenter industry that invests in green solutions.

The Cellnex datacenters in the towers have been set up in a small-scale and modular fashion. This is prompted by the exterior and interior architecture of the data towers. The advantage of these modular datacenters is that we can set them up very quickly, in agreement with the latest technologies and in accordance with your specific wishes.
Thanks to the scalable layout, there is room for growth and we can quickly anticipate new technological developments. Furthermore, the lead time is particularly short. A datacenter with ten to twelve server racks can be completely realized within 2 months. Do you wish to use one or several racks in an existing datacenter? We can set that up for you within a week.

Cellnex is carrier neutral. You choose which carriers you want to connect with.  You can use fiber optic cables, but thanks to the high attitude of the towers, at Cellnex you can opt for wireless transmission between your office and the datacenter in the tower. If you choose both options, you are ensured a connectivity guarantee of 99.999%

By applying innovative cooling solutions, such as Direct Free Air Cooling and groundwater cooling, our Efficiency (PUE) is one of the best of Europe. Cellnex cools the IT equipment bases on the ‘cold corridor principle’. Cellnex meets the requirements for datacenter temperature and air humidity tolerances outlined in AHSRAE TC9.2.

We guarantee the safety of every location with an access system. The personal RFID access pass takes you to the datacenter floor for which you are authorized. The floor can, if desired, be equipped with a biometrical access system, such as facial recognition or fingerprint. Of course, our datacenters have also been secured against break-ins according to the highest standards. Besides fences, every location is equipped with a camera system and detection system with active and passive sensors.

Image

The Cellnex datacenters have been set up in a compact and modular fashion. Due to the small-scale nature of the datacenter floors, we are constantly capable of integrating the latest technologies and designing a datacenter that meets your expectations and requirements.
We don’t use standard product lists, but prefer customization. With a private floor you have the option of setting up your datacenter according your own requirements and demands. For example, you can opt for a 80 cm rack or a combination of 60 and 100 cm racks. You also have the choice between a full or half rack or a combination thereof. At Cellnex, you can still buy 1 KW per rack instead of the usual 2 KW. Or you can even buy 20 KW per rack, if you wish.

You can also select your own access system. Do you want to be able to enter your datacenter via a pin code or do you prefer an iris scan? Ask for the possibilities. And what do you think of your own company logo in the datacenter? If you invite your customers to your datacenter, they will see that it is really your own private environment.

Your needs are our focal point. And because of the smart technologies we use, we often enable you to achieve significant savings.

No one else but you has access to your own floor. Optimal privacy is thus guaranteed. This means there is no risk from other users who may be negligent or may place equipment that is potentially flammable. A pleasant thought in relation to the current GDPR legislation.

Facts

Several of our telecom & data towers are breeding places for peregrine falcons, and that includes this tower in Alphen. Other towers that shelter these birds of prey are the tower in De Mortel, Zwolle and Haarlem. The 135-meter-high tower in Alphen in the only place in the Groene Hart (Green Heart) where the birds have settled down. They don’t occur anywhere else in the region.

After purchasing 24 towers/radio masts from KPN, Cellnex began establishing datacenters in these towers. In 2010, the datacenter in Alphen aan de Rijn was the second datacenter to be established.

Since December 22, 2017, the tower is permanently illuminated.

Facts

In 2009, the telecom and data tower, located on the Amsterdam Zuidas was increased from 106 meters to almost 150 meters and thus became one of the highest buildings in the city. The tower was also embellished that year, after the design of architect Christof Schwencke. The concrete shaft of the tower was painted azure. The shaft, with a surface of over two thousand square meters, was covered in five layers of coating. One of the requirements that the municipal council of Amsterdam made prior to issuing the building permit had to do with the aesthetic aspect. The tower shouldn’t look out of place among the prestigious and beautifully designed structures on the Zuidas.

Light art has been installed in the tower. The design of the light art is an initiative of the Projectbureau Zuidas, the Virtueel Museum Zuidas and KPN. The artwork, White Noise, was designed by the well-known light artist Giny Vos. When it gets dark, a constantly changing image of planets and stars appears on the tower. A twinkling universe crossed by meteorites and livened by small explosions. Sometimes lines of code consisting of letters and numbers appear in this universe, as a sign of human communication.

Facts

The telecom and data tower in De Mortel shelters the peregrine falcon. On the website www.beleefdelente.nl, you can observe the comings and goings of the peregrine falcon pair that nested there in 2005. Vogelbescherming Nederland (Dutch society for the protection of birds) put a webcam in the nest a couple of years ago that records all the events in the nest. The view inside the nest isn’t just fun and interesting; the peregrine falcons also make themselves useful by scaring off pigeons. Pigeons are the falcon’s preferred prey. Because of the inconvenience of their excrement, pigeons can become a nuisance in the towers.

This tower was put into service in 1989 and was owned by KPN until 2007. The radio mast only transmits radio signals. The 128-meter-high concrete construction bears a close resemblance to the tower of Ittervoort, but is 10 meters higher.

Facts

The Goes tower is the oldest radio and television mast in the Netherlands. Even the Gerbrandy Tower is more recent. It was built in 1957, on the behest of then minister Cals, to make radio and television available in the whole of the Netherlands.

Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening, the tower is illuminated. It is truly a beacon in the landscape of the province of Zeeland. Because of this and because of its age, the tower is quite well-known. It even has its own website filled with interesting details and historical facts.

The datacenter in this radio mast in Goes is the sixth datacenter that Cellnex has set up. In terms of capacity, it is also one of our largest datacenters.

Facts

The Gerbrandy Tower may well be the best-known radio mast in the Netherlands and it is most certainly the highest (372 m). This tower, including the antenna, is higher than the Eiffel Tower. For years, the tower was known as the tower of Lopik, but because of municipal reorganisation, the tower is currently located on the territory of the municipality of IJsselstein.

The radio mast has an interesting history. Maarten van Rossem filmed a documentary for RTV Utrecht and scaled the tower, which is no mean feat for someone with a fear of heights. The mast is decorated with lights on the tethers (almost) every year around Christmas time, resulting in an extremely large ‘Christmas tree’.

The datacenter set up in the tower has the largest capacity of all our datacenters: over 1200 kVA. It is not the largest in terms of surface area, though; that would be the datacenter in Roermond.
