Cellnex UK signs open access agreement with Sutton Council for the deployment of new mobile infrastructure

London, 16 February 2022. Cellnex UK has signed an open access agreement to deploy new mobile infrastructure on assets owned by Sutton Council. The agreement will enable enhanced connectivity for residents and local businesses across the borough, with the first deployments expected later this year.

Sutton Council will provide access to existing street assets – such as lamp posts and CCTV columns – for Cellnex UK to deploy small cells. Small cell technology allows Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to increase their network’s coverage and capacity in congested and densely populated areas, providing consumers with a faster, more consistent connectivity experience closer to the exact location they need it in.

Sutton will be the fifteenth London borough to allow Cellnex UK access to street assets for small cells. To date, Cellnex UK has over 1,000 small cells deployed on street assets in London across multi-MNO agreements.

Mick Goulding, Commercial Director at Cellnex UK, said: “I’m delighted to be working with Sutton Council to improve connectivity for its residents and businesses. Small cells play a crucial role in making fast and reliable connectivity accessible in urban areas. This agreement has the potential to help reduce digital poverty across the Sutton borough, and will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the community.”

Councillor Sunita Gordon, Lead Member for Resources at Sutton Council, said : “I’m pleased to see us making good progress to improve the digital connectivity within Sutton. This will be a huge boost to residents, particularly those living, working or visiting the so called ‘not-spots’ and will also be a very welcome improvement to our infrastructure for local businesses.”
