Cellnex presents the socioeconomic potential of 5G at MWC21
BARCELONA MWC 2021
- Inclusive connectivity, the new connected and automated cooperative mobility, and 5G applications in the industrial sector are the key elements of the telecommunications infrastructure operator’s participation in this year’s MWC.
- Through Edzcom, a subsidiary of the Group, the company showcases the latest technology in private communications networks to allow companies and industries to perform their processes through their own infrastructure.
- Cellnex will also show the most important 5G use cases it is working on: the sustainable mobility project for the Mediterranean corridor, 5GMED, a joint collaboration with Nokia and Quobis for the development of rural 5G, or the urban network and applications system on which it is working together with MasMóvil in Barcelona through the 5G Catalunya Pilot.
Barcelona, 25 June 2021. From 28 June to 1 July Cellnex Telecom will be taking part in a new edition of the Barcelona MWC21 international trade fair (formerly Mobile World Congress), the world meet-up for the mobile communications sector. The company, which has participated in every one of the fourteen editions of the event held in Barcelona, will present its latest solutions in the field of “smart connectivity”, especially focused on the infrastructure ecosystem that will underlie the roll-out of 5G, as well as the most significant use cases and applications related to this technology, destined to be the backbone of European society and its economy in the post-Covid era, on which it is currently working.
One new element will be the joint presentation, together with MásMóvil, of one of Cellnex’s latest innovation projects, the 5G Catalunya pilot, which aims to turn the city of Barcelona into an open innovation stage and enhance the collaboration of the entire industrial and technological ecosystem, from large corporations to technology centres and start-ups, to develop solutions for the real needs of citizens and the business fabric. Its applications extend to many different areas such as industry, urban mobility, distance shopping, audiovisual transmission, security management and emergencies in the urban environment, or remote education using holographic solutions, as well as building a neutral multi-operator network designed to offer connectivity in areas with high seasonal footfall, such as the beaches of the Barcelona coastline.
At its stand (3F23, hall 3) Cellnex will also showcase other use cases implemented in the field of 5G that the company is deploying in Europe. Notable among these cases are 5GMED; four pilot projects on the Mediterranean rail and motorway corridor, in the section between Figueres and Perpignan, in which cross-border 5G application scenarios will be developed and improved within the advanced services of cooperative connected and automated mobility (CCAM) and the Future Railway Mobile Communications System (FRMCS); as well as the 5G-Lean project developed together with Nokia and Quobis, which will bring connectivity to rural areas.
As part of the event, the company will also present the latest technology in private communications networks through Edzcom, a subsidiary of the Group, to allow companies and industries to perform their processes through their own infrastructure.
Additionally, and in line with its co-innovation strategy, in this year’s edition Cellnex will share its stand with Nearby Computing, a start-up in which Cellnex holds a stake and with which it is developing innovative solutions related to edge computing and the distributed intelligence associated with 5G.
Cellnex in the development of the 5G ecosystem in Europe
5G requires a new network architecture, and Cellnex Telecom, present in twelve European countries, is working to develop the infrastructures required for the effective roll-out of this new technology, in which the neutral host model and sharing schemes between operators are key.
5G will involve a paradigm shift in terms of connectivity to facilitate the exponential increase in data consumption and transmission, as well as the minimum latency required for the development of applications such as the autonomous vehicle, artificial intelligence, industry 4.0 or telemedicine, among others.
