Providing additional capacity in hyper dense areas or covering unserved ones, complementing current macro base stations deployments.
Small Cells and Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) are forms of network densification. Instead of providing coverage with high power base stations, Cellnex provides tailored coverage with a system of distributed radios and antennas. This allows outstanding mobile connectivity to spots where large numbers of users are concentrated, such as stadiums, skyscrapers, shopping malls, crowded outdoor areas or airports. These solutions also provide excellent coverage to underground places like tunnels, car parks or railway stations. We have vast experience deploying multi-operator systems that can be used by all the operators and subscribers.
Cellnex Hosted Location enables Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to enhance outdoor capacity and roll out 5G connectivity in built-up areas by placing Small Cells on street furniture – on CCTV columns, lamp posts, advertising hoardings, kiosks and more. This swift and simple alternative to building new towers or rooftop sites, delivers the coverage and capacity exactly where it is needed – at street level and with line of sight to mobile devices.
Our rights to use street assets for communications equipment, can give you access to many hundreds of thousand of locations in dense urban environments. We take care of structural approvals, power connection and install the Small Cell equipment. All operational sites are fully supported by our service desk.
The result is the smooth, efficient provision of the network you need, where you need it. With new assets and locations becoming available all the time, it’s easier than ever to solve capacity pinch points.
Providing a complete solution for small cells, Cellnex UK’s Connected Location solution offers Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) a combination of asset, power, and connectivity – all in one place. Building on the principles of Hosted Location, which provides the asset and power supply, Cellnex is able to provide the connectivity too. Essentially removing the backhaul burden from MNOs, Connected Location instead allows Cellnex to meet that requirement using a dark fibre solution.
We have continued to develop our pilot deployment in Hammersmith and Fulham – the UK’s first plug and play, 5G-enabled network for Small Cells – which comprises 90 street asset locations connected by 15km of dark fibre, to help shape our approach. Enabling the C-RAN architecture that will allow 5G to flourish, Connected Location comes with added benefits in the form of technology futureproofing; dark fibre costs remain the same no matter the bandwidth required, and provide a long-term 5G solution, one that can handle backhaul, fronthaul, low latency, and C-RAN.
Connected Location is a standardised solution that can be replicated across London boroughs and other cities. It offers a neutral host, shared platform for clusters of asset locations that multiple MNOs can use, taking advantage of shared economics and decoupling future increases in capacity demand from rises in the cost of transmission.
Our solution will deliver connectivity back to where the MNOs need it, and will include a location to house base band units as required. Connected Location allows MNOs to deploy urban capacity solutions strategically, rather that tackling hotspots in a piecemeal way.
