Inside the Cellnex Mentoring Programme
What happens when you connect two people from different teams, backgrounds, or even countries –and give them time, trust, and space to grow? At Cellnex, that’s not a thought experiment. It’s the heart of our Global Mentoring Programme.
Launched as part of our Global Talent strategy, this six-month initiative matches employees across the organisation in mentoring pairs. It’s more than a development tool –it’s a space to listen, learn, share, and lead together. Participants come from different business units and countries, with different career stages and perspectives, but all share one thing: a genuine desire to grow and help others do the same.
Real conversations. Real growth
Mentoring at Cellnex is not about ticking boxes or following scripts. It’s about real people talking about real challenges –career transitions, confidence building, new roles, tough decisions– and unlocking growth through honest reflection. Each mentoring relationship is unique, but all are built on trust, openness, and a willingness to listen deeply.
“It’s a unique opportunity to deepen my expertise and gain personalised insights from someone with hands-on experience,” says Amanda Erixon, a mentee from Cellnex Sweden. “I was looking for someone in my corner –someone who could support and inspire me along the way,” adds Api Jain, from Cellnex UK. Their perspectives show how mentoring provides not just advice, but encouragement and empowerment –qualities that resonate deeply in a fast-evolving organisation like Cellnex.
With 25 mentors and 25 mentees, each pair meets regularly between June and November. They set their own pace and direction, guided by trust, confidentiality, and curiosity. Some explore technical growth; others focus on soft skills or career transitions. Regardless of topic, every conversation is a step forward –for both participants.
Leading by listening
Mentors don’t provide answers –they create space. For Antoni Liria, Global Sales Excellence Director at Cellnex, the greatest reward has been watching his mentee become more confident and proactive. “Seeing them take ownership of their growth and challenge ideas constructively is incredibly rewarding,” he says. “It’s a reminder that talent flourishes when people feel safe, seen, and supported.”
He adds that mentoring has also refined his own approach to leadership. “You learn to listen differently. You adapt. And you realise that across Cellnex’s geographies, we work in many ways –but we grow through shared values.” For many mentors, the programme is an opportunity to give back while also staying sharp, curious, and open to fresh perspectives.
Connecting strategy with people
Mentoring is deeply personal –but its impact is strategic. At a time when Cellnex is scaling its capabilities and responsibilities in digital infrastructure, fostering leadership that connects operational know-how with cross-functional understanding is more important than ever.
As Vincenzo Bombelli, Director of Land Acquisition & Management at Cellnex Italia, puts it: “If we want agile, forward-thinking leadership, we need to create opportunities for people to think beyond their role, beyond silos. Mentoring does that. It helps people see the bigger picture –how strategy, operations, and human connection all fit together.” This broader vision is essential as Cellnex continues to grow in complexity and reach.
A culture that shares to grow
Behind the programme is a clear vision. Susana Herreros, Global Head of Talent & Leadership, who leads the initiative, puts it simply: “This is one of our most meaningful tools to nurture talent, promote reflection, and connect people across borders.”
That vision extends beyond the six-month programme. Participants often maintain contact beyond the official sessions, forming lasting relationships and support networks. It’s a ripple effect –of learning, sharing, and growing together– that strengthens our culture.
The Global Mentoring Programme is a reminder that growth doesn’t always come from the top down. Sometimes, it begins with two people, one question, and a shared willingness to listen. It’s one more way Cellnex is building a future where talent is not only developed, but deeply valued.
